Atty. Theodore Joseph M. Jumamil is one of the founding partners of the Firm. Before establishing the practice, he was a Senior Associate at Villaraza & Angangco, where he was recognized as the Top Senior Associate in his first year in the role—a testament to his exceptional skill and dedication.
Known for his ability to craft highly nuanced legal arguments and advice, Mr. Jumamil has developed a strong reputation in highly technical fields of law, including banking and finance, white-collar crimes, intra-corporate dispute, and corporate rehabilitation and insolvency. His keen analytical approach allows him to navigate complex legal frameworks and deliver strategic solutions tailored to the unique challenges of his clients.
An up-and-coming corporate and commercial lawyer, Mr. Jumamil has built a steady track record of representing the interests of some of the Philippines’ largest domestic corporations, multinational companies, family offices, banking and financial institutions, and public utilities, among others. His ability to provide sharp legal insights and meticulous case strategies has earned him the trust of both corporate giants and high-profile clients.
In just five years of practice, Mr. Jumamil has played critical and pivotal roles in teams that successfully handled multi-billion peso litigations and big-ticket transactions. Among the historic cases he has worked on, he was involved in addressing the largest financial default in Philippine history—worth over USD 1.5 billion—and played a key role in securing a PhP 1 billion reduction in penalties imposed upon a major public utility company. He was also deeply involved in representing the interest of one of the biggest conglomerates in the Philippines in connection with its USD565 million acquisition of the interest in the company, which has participating contractual interest in a service contract entered into with the Philippine Government, for the exploration, exploitation, and development of the biggest natural gas project in the country. Mr. Jumamil has also handled various intra-corporate disputes involving multi-billion-peso companies. He also regularly provides advisory services to clients and foreign counsel on Philippine law concerning arbitration, contractual breaches, engineering and construction, insurance, and other highly technical legal matters.
Beyond practice, Mr. Jumamil is a scholar of the law. He has served as a faculty member at the University of the Philippines College of Law and San Sebastian College-Recoletos College of Law, where he has taught and mentored future legal practitioners. He has also published several articles on diverse legal and economic topics, including corporate governance, regulation of low Earth orbit satellites, the role of private equity and hedge funds in economic development, and the corporate governance implications of private corporations’ political activities. In addition, he has authored various guides on Philippine arbitration, contributing to the field’s development both locally and internationally.
Mr. Jumamil was admitted to the Philippine Bar in 2019 where he ranked 18th. He holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Harvard University. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of the Philippines, where he ranked 6th in his graduating class, was an Editor of the Philippine Law Journal, and a decorated mooter. His Juris Doctor Research Paper on corporate governance won the Legal Writing Excellence Award. Mr. Jumamil also holds a Bachelor of Science in Management Engineering from Ateneo de Manila University.
He previously served as a Law Clerk to Associate Justice Samuel Gaerlan of the Supreme Court of the Philippines and a consultant in the Office of Senator Juan Edgardo Angara. Mr. Jumamil is a member of the Philippine Dispute Resolution Center, Inc. (PDRCI).
